Philweb Tree Planting Activity at Buhay Punlaan

They say, "Nature doesn't need people, and people need nature", and I believe that was indeed right. As humans we need nature, and we have to protect it to make the world a better place. My hiking activities made me closer to nature's heart that's the reason why I want to support the advocacy of some organizations to protect and save the mother nature.

I am proud that my employer, Philweb Corporation is engaging with nature by conducting annual tree planting activities in some forest here in the Philippines. Last 2013, Philweb with selected employees participated in tree planting activity held at La Mesa Eco Park. We planted trees and took a trek around the vicinity of La Mesa Eco Park.

Last November 21 and 28, Philweb once again conducted a tree planting activity at Buhay Punlaan, Lumban, Laguna to support The Road to 2020 Project of Haribon Foundation. The goal of the project is to restore 1 million hectares of forest here in the Philippines.

Heading to Buhay Punlaan
We traveled more than 3 hours before we reach the Buhay Punlaan. It was a rainy morning that's why its too muddy while walking through the nursery. Sir Russell Retilda of Haribon Foundation discussed about Haribon Foundation with it's goals. After the discussion, we started to plant trees near the Caliraya river. After we planted trees, we went back to the nursery and proceeded for another discussion then packed the soils that was required for us to contribute.

In this activity, I just realized that Mahogany tree is an exotic tree. Meaning it wasn't originally came from the Philippines. Exotic trees are not really contributing for the proper formation of soil because of the toxic it may bring for soils for some expert reasons. Since Haribon is promoting Rainforestation instead of just Reforestation, they planted only native trees. For my own understanding (yes, i was listening on the discussion), Rainforestation is the creation or restoration of rainforest to have a balance ecosystem.

After the activity we went to Caliraya Sunrise Eatery to have our lunch. The scenery was really nice as the eatery is located besides the river.
