This is my third visit in the beautiful town of Bakun. I don't know the exact reason why I keep on coming back.

Hiking Adventures #48: Mt. Amuyao (Barlig-Barlig) - 9th Open Climb 2017

This 9th Open Climb was supposed to be in Mt. Dulang-Dulang-Kitanglad or popularly known as "D2K". However, my pal and our batch's Batch Coordinator, Atty. JP Anthony Cunada reached out to a tourism officer for D2K and said that our climb dates was already booked by other groups and there were no slots left. So we decided to choose other mountain to replace D2K, and we chose Mt. Amuyao again but this time it will be a traverse.

JP was supposed to be the Team Leader for this climb, but since he was undergone deep brain surgery because of X-linked Parkinsonism Dystonia which manifested during the training season, I volunteered to take his place with the help of our batchmate, Cyrus David which assigned to be the Asst. Team Leader.

Almost a month after our 1st major training climb in Mt. Amuyao, we headed to Mountain Province again for our 2nd major training climb in Mt. Kalawitan. This is one of my unforgettable climbs because of the struggles we experienced. Almost all of us was very vocal about not going back to the mountain. However, this climb taught us lessons that would make us better as mountaineers.

Hiking Adventures #39: Luzon 3 2 1 - Mt. Timbak, Mt. Tabayoc and Mt. Pulag

Before 2016 ends, one of my dream climbs was about to set by my hiking brother, Ed Velasquez which is the Mt. Halcon climb. As Halcon dubbed as country's toughest mountain to climb, we need to do some couple of training climbs first. We chose Luzon 3-2-1 which is composed of 3 highest peaks in Luzon, the Mt. Timbak, Mt. Tabayoc and Mt. Pulag. It's a good climb for me to push my luck again to finally seeing the Sea of Clouds in Pulag, my Mother Mountain.

In search for the Sea of Clouds, I didn't think twice on joining in this climb set by MMS member, Ed Velasquez. According to some blogs that I've read, Mt. Amuyao has a greater chance of having sea of clouds as compared to Mt. Pulag and other mountains in the Philippines. Since Ed is a hardcore mountaineer, he decided to make it a Reverse Traverse (Batad, Ifugao to Barlig, Mountain Province).

Last May 2014 when I first climbed the 2nd Highest Mountain in the Philippines, the Mt. Pulag. Our climb was really amazing. All were done accordingly though we failed to witness the Sea of Clouds. So we came back last Valentine's Day hoping to see the spectacular view, but we didn't expect that it could be one of the worst climbs of us.

There are many mountains in the Philippines that are worth climbing for, especially those with breathtaking views. And the most popular in all of those is the Mt. Pulag, the Playground of the Gods. Mt. Pulag is the 3rd highest mountain (but is currently the official 2nd highest) in the Philippines and the Luzon's highest peak at 2,922 meters above sea level, located at Kabayan, Benguet.
