It was almost 2 months ago since our
last climb, that's why I can't hide my excitement on this next
adventure. We planned this for the last climb of Edmund Milanes as
Philweb employee. We chose a mountain where we can just chill at night
to celebrate Edmund's farewell. The original plan was to climb Mt.
Tibig, but staying overnight at the top was temporarily prohibited. So
we shifted to Mt. Gulugod Baboy (pig spine).
Mt. Gulugod Baboy is located at Anilao, Mabini, Batangas. The mountain's difficulty is only 2/9 with trail class of 1-3. The mountain called Gulugod Baboy because the peaks looks like pig's spine as seen from Janao Bay. There are 3 peaks at the top, from the top you can see the stunning view of Balayan Bay and Batangas Bay at the other side. Some hikers said according to their blog, that Mt. Gulugod Baboy is a perfect climb for beginners or first-timers. Exactly, I invited my friend, Irene Endaya to be part of this climb for her first ever hiking adventure.
From Manila, we rent a van that would bring us in Mabini, but there are alternative ways on how you can get to Mabini (visit this blog). Good thing that we decided to rent a van because we were relax and hassle-free while heading to Mabini. I got even more excited when I saw the Balayan bay from the van, we were all like.. Woooow!! The bay was peaceful and quite. I daydreamed about living near the bay and waking up with the stunning view.
The weather was on our favor that day. We're with Mr. Sun during the climb and it was too hot. We started to trek at around 2:30pm. I wore my sleeves to protect my arms and scarf for my neck. The hardest part was the initial part which is the uphill concrete road. Irene got so tired and had a hard time to catch her breath. So we took a rest in benches made from bamboo along the concrete way. I thought Irene couldn't make it to the top, but she said, she can. To help her, I brought her bag for her to walk at ease until we reached the main trail. We continued until we reached the house selling ice candy. All of us bought ice candies and decided to rest again. I just learned that ice candy brings so much relief for sunny hiking.
Some of those houses are selling soft drinks and provide benches for the hikers. After 3 hours, we reached the top and we were so stunned with the view, it was scenically beautiful. We watched the sunset and took a lot of photos before we seek for a camp spot. We quickly pitched the tents and some of us cooked for our dinner. Our menu for our dinner was Chicken&Pork Adobo and Spicy Boneless Bangus.
That was my first time to appreciate the beauty of a sunset. I was really amazed.
After the dinner, we started the socials. We first opened a bottle of Emperador Light to start up the socials. Someone from the other group joined us in our socials and played the guitar of Sir Aldrin that made the night more merrier. He seems to be an expert mountaineer. According to him, he climb every week together with his group.
When all the liquors got empty, lights out.
We woke up before the sunrise to watch a new beginning, and as usual, we took photos again. Since we decided to have a side trip at Sumbrero Island, we didn't cook for our breakfast, instead cook it in the island. We unpitched our tents and packed our things then started to descend. The view was so peacefully nice and very relaxing. The hills was so green and the bay was so blue, I was like in Batanes on that moment.
