The Masungi Georeserve in Tanay, Rizal

Before the year 2015 ends, I had a chance to visit the newest attraction in Rizal, which is the Masungi Georeserve. Masungi is one of the ecotourist spot here in the Philippines located in the town of Tanay.

The first time I heard about Masungi was when my friend Genesis posted a photo of "The Sapot" on Instagram. It was very inviting and it was my first time to see something like that. So it gave me an urge to go. When my hiking buddy, Abbie invited me to join them in a day trip in Masungi, I didn't think twice on joining them.

We were scheduled for the afternoon. Only 2 groups are allowed on a day, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.

The protected area is not really so accessible because it is located inside nor behind Garden Cottages. When we got inside the Garden Cottages, we headed through the Clubhouse to meet Ann Dumaliang, the Project Officer of Masungi Georeserve and she will accompany us around the area. We took additional ~15-minute ride going to the reserve.

While we were entering the area, I noticed the limestones looks the same in some mountains of Rizal like Pamitinan and Binacayan. We proceeded to a relaxing handling area for a quick introduction and guidelines.

So we get started. We entered in "Lagusan ni Ric" which was surrounded by limestones.

The trail is called "Discovery Trail". It has a lot of limestones and sink holes so please mind your steps. You will enjoy some obstacle-like structures along the trail.

So this man-made spider web is the one that made me want to go. I really admire the idea and I've never seen something like this before, and I'm glad that it's in the Philippines.

While walking on the trails, I felt like I was in the Jurassic Park, specially when I saw Patak and I thought that a dinosaur will appear anytime. Such a great trail.

This is my favorite part of the Discovery trail, the Duyan. It's a little bit scary walking to this giant hammock but it's really cool once you laid down and watch some birds flying.

NOTES

The rate for the entire tour is P1,000. Strictly no walk-ins. The management has provided an online reservation on their site.

HOW TO GET THERE

We went Masungi using a private vehicle. So I don't have any idea how to visit Masungi via public transportation. So for more valid info I would strongly suggest to visit Celine Reyes' Celineism blog post about Masungi.

It was already dark when we got to some of Masungi's highlights, so you could also check those on Celine Reyes' blog.

The experience was really awesome. I hope there will be more protected area in the Philippines soon and let's contribute. And I hope everyone could visit this wonderful place.
